Today I picked up my weekly dose of 8 boxes of halves. Two of them were opened. The teller claimed the armored car guy dropped them and then she recounted the rolls and wrapped them. "For some reason he keeps dropping them, " she said. Now some people on this forum got me thinking, "that jerk's taking my silver!" When I opened the boxes in my car one of the opened boxes had two silvers showing, the other had four showing and one loose coin in the box. Very strange ... that's the first fed box I've gotten of any type (and I've gone through hundreds of all different denominations) to have a loose coin in it. (Once I got a penny box with a piece of $20 dollar bill in it.) What do you guys think? Was he picking? How could he be if he left 6 silvers?

Thanks.

About 25% of the time, my half dollar box has been dropped. It's never been bad enough to break the box open, but some rolls inside have been split and the box is no good. A couple of times, the teller admitted to being the one that dropped it. As far as extra, or loose, coins in the boxes, I've seen that with boxes of dimes. My box last week had an extra dime in it, loose. That just meant that the 10 silver dimes only cost me 90 cents! I'm pretending that the Mercury was the free one. One other time, the teller opened a box of dimes for me and there were 3 extras floating around in it. She said that it happens all the time. I wonder how they account for the loss?

Loss ... probably meaningless to them. Extra loose coins --- just made me wonder how I never saw that before. The most extra coins I ever got in a fed roll was three. Anyone have any more than that? It was 43 quarters instead of 40.

hey kestrelia,

Yesterday I got my 4 boxes and on of them had 2 loose coins at the bottom. I checked every roll to see if they were short in the box and they weren't. this is the first time that I have encountered any extras in the box. The next box was short a whole roll ???. I was pissed about that. both boxes were still sealed
