If its on government land it wouldn't do you any good to find it.

There once was a 'town' called Meyers Mill in Barnwell County, South Carolina. In 1951, the land was acquired by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission as part of a site for the Savannah River Plant. The town does not exist today--nor was it the site of a gold mine--to my knowledge--but the tie-in with the government now owning the land is what prompted this response.

What surprises me is the fact that before gold was discovered in California in 1848, South Carolina was the nation's largest gold-mining state.
