A coworker of my wife mentioned how one of her neighbors lost his wedding band and had combed the yard looking for it with no luck. My wife mentioned that I metal detect and that I might be able to help. I got in touch with Mike, the owner, and set up a time to meet him at his house. I brought along the Sovereign GT and Mike showed me the area he believed it to be. (he was playing football with the kids and SAW it fly off his hand and land in the grass. Even though he saw where it went they were unable to recover it. It has been about a month and 1/2 since it was lost, a couple rain storms and grass cuttings (always on the lookout for it or the distinct "chink" of something hitting the mower deck!) so I figured it may be pressed down a bit. Hit several targets that sounded more like aluminum and coins than a ring. It is platinum and I wasn't sure if it sounded the same as gold (sadly haven't found any platinum yet...till now!) so I called Max the MD Yoda just to check. He confirmed that it should sound similar to gold and I would (hopefully) recognize it. I had dug a couple other tgts that were possibilities but once we got down to about 3-4" I stopped to save his lawn the trauma and I was pretty sure it wouldn't be that deep. About 5 mins after getting off the phone with Max, I got a low tone with almost a "zip" sound in with it (only way I can describe it). It stood out from the other tones and I was pretty sure this was it. It was!

It was only about an inch or so down but the grass was thick so I had to chase it a bit with the pinpointer until we got it. It was nice to be able to help someone out. He wanted to know which restaurant I liked or beer that I drank but I just told him that it wasn't necessary and that I was happy to help. Hopefully he's not in the dog house now!

Now I just have to find one on the beach that has no ownership attached to it!

Outstanding DocBeav. Wouldn't it be neat to have a separate Forum for lost and then found (returned) rings...

On another forum they have the "Depot Honor Roll" for something like that. It is a cool idea, you see people here all the time returning lost rings and items....

Great story and find! Way to rep our hobby.

Congrats!!!

Nice job. Finding a particular item that was lost is really difficult since it is often not lost where the owner thinks it was. God for you for persevering and finding it.
