Low Yield Roman Site - Produces TREASURE!

[CRUSADER]

We have not tried this Roman Site for many years. When we first found it & gridded it we only found a couple of artefacts & 2 scrappies! (Pretty sure it was tapped out by detectorist before our permission) Today it came to the top of the list because of our very limited options this time of year. As luck would have it, it had been deep ploughed recently!

I gridded the Site for 5 hours & Cru'dad helped for 3 hours;

21 Scrappies
Medieval Buckle Plate
Tudor Clothes Fastener
Roman Fan-Tail Brooch
Saxon Pin (broken)
Cut Quarter Hammered Short-Cross Penny
Star Find - Cru'dad got a piece of a 1st-2nd C AD Roman Silver Snake Head Bracelet. Only found 4 previously recorded one's on the PAS & this is by far the best one. Very chunky & must have been someone wealthy or a Roman Soldier!

Only the 2nd hunt of 2019 & we have Treasure already.

Yes in the field, I've had lots of smaller bronze versions but I was unaware of Silver ones.

UPDATE;
This is why it helps to have good records. Cru'dad checked our last visit to this field & found we had found another Snake Head bracelet bit. They do seem to be a match (these bracelet had 2 heads that crossed over at the top opening) other than the first one shows no signs of being silver. (which is why it was never reported)
PS. The silver one also shows no signs of being plated in the break area.

PPS. I wonder if one of the snakes was silver & the other was bronze, to give the effect of a bi-metal 2 snake bracelet (remember bronze looks gold when new)

Size and design match. Maybe you're right, could be riveted together... Or roman series production? Unlikely to get a bronze and a silver one at the same site.

Incredible ! It does seem off the charts unusual to find two on the same acreage - may this was "the" location in Roman Britain where these were forged ?

No signs of metal working & we know what that looks like. Maybe had a matching pair of 1 bronze, 1 silver; left arm, right arm
