I have had the pleasure to stand on the two of the three places of his historical trip across the Atlantic solo. The spot where he started his trip was an airfield in san Diego flying to New york and then onto Europe. The air field in san Diego is now [back in the 90's] just a cruddy ugly parking lot where I parked my car for my job with General Dynamics. The second was where he flew from New York to Europe. It's covered by a shopping mall now. At least they have a historical marker there stating what happened there a very long time ago.
