I admit to not being the best researcher of the web, but until someone comes along I will give you what I found. It, of course, does belong to a Mauser gun of some sort. The DRP on it appears to have something to do with the city code. DRP was started being used in 1924. There is a forum called "K98k" that specializes in Mauser guns. I would expect they could give you a good answer, if one of our pros doesn't come thru. My opinion is that it has something to do with a bi-pod, maybe for a sniper rifle.

Somewhere I recall reading that if a mauser has DRP it stood for Deutsches Reichs Post (German Post Office).

Buttplate would be the wrong word, but it looks to me like the part you would tuck your shoulder into. Kind of like in this photo.
