magnetic but not metal?

I found a nail today and before i covered the hole up, dug around in it with my probe and seen a little ball shape maybe 1/2'' or so wide. It did not go off on my probe or on the md. It will however stick lightly to a magnet. any ideas what it ma y be? Another weird quality about it, it will not bounce when dropped or thrown on concrete.

sorry but best pic i could get today, kinda looks like a nail may have deposited enough iron into the ball to make it slightly magnetic, just weird that it wouldnt beep on md or pointer.
