No it will not. Most of us have a rare earth magnet on our scoops.
 

Just keep the magnet from getting right next to the control housing, and you should be just fine. I keep a rare earth magnet in the bottom of the basket of my scoop -- it snaps up all the iron junk, making it easy to see/recover and move on to the next target.

Yes, but this depends on where he's detecting at. All beaches are different.
