Monday I had a chance to go back to the Main Street home and almost finished the first go round of the yard. I didn’t find as much this time, but still got some goodies including a silver dime and an old presidential token so it was a good day. It started out frosty at 22 degrees, but it was sunny and it warmed up so my fingers didn’t stay cold too long.
I spent 4 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 23 coins with a face value of $1.19, a small Jesus statue made of a cheap metal that has deteriorated, a cable clamp (probably from a ground wire), a mystery brass piece that could be a lamp top or part of a drawer pull, 4 wheat pennies, 1919, a 1920 that looks like it has been clipped by a pair of sheers, 1931 and 1956D, a padlock keyhole cover, 1964D silver dime, a Herbert Hoover presidential token, and a key.
The padlock keyhole cover is marked W&Co and if my sources are right it was made by the Wilcox Company of Middletown CT from 1845 - 1875.
The Hoover token is one of several that look very much alike with only minor differences. This one lists his accomplishments on the back and 31st president and the dates 1929 - 1933 above his picture. Some others have one date on each side of the picture. It is part of a set and I have found other presidents like it in other yards. I am not sure what year this set was made. If anyone knows a date range that would be a big help. My guess would be the 50s.
Yesterday I went back to campus and was cleaning up a section. I dug a ton of can slaw and tabs, but not a lot of coins, less than $1, in the first 3.5 hours. I moved to another spot for another hour and did a lot better coin wise.
I ended up with 56 coins face value of $2.59, a plated pendant, an 1879 IHP, a key and some interesting brass pieces.
With some of the older things that have come out of this site I knew there had to be an Indian in here somewhere and it finally showed up. The 1879 Indian was on edge in the hole so I got more of a midtone signal instead of the usual high tone. I would have missed it if I had not been digging the slaw and tabs. It is not in great shape, but I do love those IHPs. Too bad this one isn’t 2 years older. That would have been a fantastic find.
This brass looks like it is part of a 3” hinged ring. I’m not sure what it was used for, but it does have some age on it. I know similar types of rings held samples of Formica for counter tops, carpet, drapery fabric and other such things, but this looks a lot older than the ones I remember. If you know more about this thing please chime in here.
The last piece is one I have not seen before. It looks like it may have been used as part of a latch of some sort. If you know what this is please let me know.
A couple more good days with some gas money, some keepers and some more interesting stuff to keep me going.
Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
