Found this detailed account of one or maybe two swim holes, depending on how you read it...

Many times recently I have woken up in the middle of the night recollecting my memories of the time I lived in "the neighborhood" from 1933 to 1940. (Actually, I had to check with my mother to get the dates, since I was only 2 when we moved to Maple Street) Even after moving to the other side of the tracks way up on West Main in 1940 I still returned to the old neighborhood frequently. I do have lots of fond memories of the time I spent between the streets - Water, Cove, Clinton, Albert, Maple and Prospect. I recall the paths between Clinton and Albert and Maple and Prospect, as well as the old swimming hole across the railroad tracks from the end of Clinton and Kimball Cove between Maple and Prospect.

Forgot to mention this is the town of Milo, Maine. Also, here's more info...Albert Street ended just beyond the Bishop house, which was located diagonally to the left and across the street from the bottom of the path between Clinton and Albert Streets. There was a big natural sand area in back of the Bishop's that we played in and a path from there down to the end of Maple Street...

hey bergie, you still live in maine? i moved from there to cleveland back in march of 04. i did some detecting around oob and some school yards. never much luck but still kinda new at this. now i hunt mostly house lots and the park. plus i upgraded so my finds are coming more frequent. right now just trying to keep warm.....

Hey Bergie, I am originally from Maine myself. Every time I go back to some great memory from my child hood as to a treasure spot to hunt I seem to be disapointed. Ponds drained Houses built , parking lots paved over etc. But it doesn't stop me from going back and trying! I still hit it good once and a while. Cladius.

Hey, guys, like the song says, "paved paradise, put up a parking lot" -- I live in NY. I just found the Maine thing doing swimming hole research.

Hey Bergie,

I've been trying to find out if there is anything (swimming holes, etc.) like that in my area. The research has been like hitting my head on a wall of brick! I live in Melbourne, FLorida. The history I find is very vague to say the least. Maybe you could give it a try and point me in the right direction. You seem to be excellent at the research thing.
