I have a puzzling bit of rock... it has a solid ID of 47. When in open air it's identifiable from about 3 or 4 inches away. What have I found? It's not gold as far as I can tell... my two gold samples are a 14 carat bracelet fragment that comes in 20-21 and my wedding ring that comes in at 30-31. It's about half the size of a dime but 3 or 4 times as thick. I can see a few glints of gold and not a flashy gold but a solid mellow butter gold... but it doesn't ring in right. I've tried taking a picture but it doesn't really photograph very well with my phone. If the pic will make or break an ID I'll try one but it's frustrating trying to get a clear picture.

Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like it's something that's not of this world. If it refuses to have its picture taken, its probably a ghost or an evil entity. I'd say rebury it where you found it and never go back. Either that or get a new phone.

Don't conclude material from IDs, it's a typical fault. For example aluminium foil can have ID low as 10, but big aluminium trash can have an ID in the 90s. It depends also on material size and thickness.
