I found this track in rock near Winnett, Montana. It was just above an inland sea full of gastropods etc. Have you seen anything like it? I'm curious as to what mammal it is from. Thanks Mammal track & tongs 015.webp

Nice find. No idea what it is. Thanks for showing it

If it is, indeed, an animal track, I would guess a cat of some kind. The depth of the imprint suggests that claw marks would have been left as well if it were a canid, or ursid (dog or bear family). Cats' claw retract so dont often leave marks with their prints...

how big is it?

Good eyes in spotting the 'paw print'!

I don't want to dash your hopes, but the rock looks granitic (igneous) to me - not sedimentary. If so, this is a pattern from weathering. Animal tracks can only be laid down in sediment (sand, clay, mud, etc.) that eventually forms sedimentary rock to preserve them.

Lab rat I was thinking the same thing I think you nailed this one.

Yeah, sadly it doesn't look like an actual print to me. Sorry :(

Bigfoot's limitless brother?
