Phew!
Hey folks, this was a long one today. It's in the mid to uppers 80s here in Seattle but it feels hotter than that.
I got permission to hunt a construction site with a handful of houses that are slated for destruction. The abatement period on the houses just ended this week so I decided to go hit the site this morning. The yards aren't really big, and unfortunately are pretty overgrown. I made the most of it and hit the spots I could.
Here are a few photos of the site:

My second signal of the morning was a 1940-S wheat penny. "Sweet!" I thought to myself. "This site should be loaded with old goodies." Sadly, I was wrong. I found a 1941 Jefferson Nickel shortly thereafter and an old spoon a little while after that, and that's the only old items I found at the whole site after detecting for 3.5 hours. Would've expected more but hey, that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.
Not one to be easily defeated, I came home and detected my own backyard for 2 hours. This is probably my 4th time over it. I found 6 clad coins and a couple interesting items but that was it.
I almost called it a day there but decided I'd feel like too much of a failure if I did. I crossed the street and asked my neighbors if I could take a go at their sidewalk strips. "Have at it!" they said. "Let us know if you find anything cool."
I worked the strips for around an hour and managed four wheaties total. To me, it felt like my day was redeemed despite the lack of any silver coins.
A little icing on the cake, when cleaning my coins I was able to get some of the tarnish off the old spoon so I could read "NF Silver Co 1877" on the back. Cool! Looks like a found a little silver today after all. After some research it looks like this little item is a product of the Niagara Falls Silver Company and is probably in the ballpark of 100 years old.
My totals on the day:
-5 wheats (17-S, 40-S, 42-S, 44-S, 46-S)
-1 silver spoon
-34 Memorial Cents
-1 Canadian Penny
-3 Nickels (including a 41 and 54)
-6 Dimes
-4 Quarters

Good luck in the hunt folks! More from me later in the week.
