Just wondering what part of the coil actually picks up the signal? Try it this way as well if I get a hit is it picking it up from say the center or the outer ring? Just trying to see the best way to pinpoint I guess. Thanks

There are different kinds of coils.. Google concentric vs DD coils for an explanation. Then check your machine to see what kind you've got. Regardless though, you need to practice with a few targets to know where the target is likely to be in relationship to where it sounds like it is.

Best way to learn your pinpointing is to toss a coin and find it and if your detector has a proportional sound in the pinpoint than do it with your eyes closed and then open them to see where is the coin in respect of the coil.
