Maybe a mail box plate
large opening allows you to view the contents of the mail box
The hole with wear looks like it was where the combination dial was placed
Just a guess but makes sense to me

For sure!! A music box plate, if not? It's identical to one...... I also took my toys apart......... And still do!!

I just took one apart not to long ago that went to a rare antique musical clock That I was going to repair and give to my wife since she collects music box items . The thing was all sticky from old oil...... Of all the stupid things to do ? I forgot to let the tension off the spring and started to take the music box apart....Yep! You guessed it!! It is trash!!!!! Parts flew everywhere and broke into pieces!! $600 bucks flew all over the room!

What I'm getting at? That part that is pictured above is burnt into my brain after destroying it from one of the stupidest mistakes!!!
