I went out to some old house places from the early to mid 1800's that are out behind my house today and used my detector and found what was left from an old wash tub that had been flattened and what I think is a ring from the end of an old nail keg and this item in the pictures, it looks like it may be an old watch case, it may have had a hinged cover on the front and back (I'm just guessing here). can anyone help with identification, maybe date range of manufacture, brand etc.

Definately a pocket watch case. I found a similar one made of silver earlier this year. I cant help with age however but someone can. Congrats and welcome to TNet from Wisconsin!

I believe this is silver also. (Nope, it's brass)

You are right, I cleaned a spot and it is indeed brass.

Welcome to tnet nice find plenty of good stuff is out there

I have found 1 or 2 like that, and I'm pretty sure they were brass.

It is a watch case, although I can't help on the ID specifics. Nice find and welcome to the forum from Illinois.

Nice relic, congrats! :occasion14:

Thanks, I plan on going back to the same area on the next good day.

Cleaned the case some and found this number (102), I take it to be the serial number. If it is it seems to be towards the beginning of manufacture. In looking at antique watches on the 'net' the scroll work on the edge of the case seems to be kind of a unique design.20191213_085105.webp
