Hey fellas, found this brass ring on an old farmstead near the McDowell (VA) battlefield. What do you think, ring off a horse rein? Also found this nice Indian Head and a small pistol ball (not pictured). Thanks in advance for your input!

Looks like a rein guide to me. That IH is in great shape. Nice finds.

That IH is a beauty! Nice save. HH

I have also seen a ring configuration like that on some old rifles they are sling attachment pieces Winchester had a saddle gun with ring on side others had rings on front and back for the sling. Most were discarded as they rattled and scared off the animal hunted.

Very well could be. I'm not sure though - but the closer I look, the piece on my ring doesn't seem to be exactly right for either of these suggestions.:icon_scratch:

nice finds congrats HH

Ok, I think this is what I've got. Pretty much a perfect match.

Yes I believe that is it, the front of the bridle bit. The research is as enjoyable as the detecting and just as rewarding. The picture explained to me why your piece seemed to have a flat side to it .I believe it has been solved.
