MD'ing on Sandy Hook, NJ beaches

Hi, We hope to vacation in the Sandy Hook area this summer. Can anyone tell me the regulations in regards to metal detecting on the Sandy Hook beaches, Gateway National Recreation Area?

Sandy Hook is off limits for metal detecting, I believe is a federal park.

Correct - absolutely no MDing in Sandy Hook.

I know that it's a bit pointless to respond to a 3 year old thread, but I feel I should also say for the benefit of any future people that Sandy Hook was also an artillery proving ground, making it highly likely that there are still buried land mines, bombs, and other artillery. So, if some of you are willing to forgo federal regulations, you may be putting yourself at risk of more than just a fine.

I do not believe there is any unexploded ordinance left on the public beaches at Sandy Hook.
