Medieval Fortresses - Where to Search?

Has anyone experience with searching ruined Medieval Fortresses with Motte & Bailey, where the most likely areas to find items would most likely be in and around the structure?

I have no experience in that area, but if I were given the opportunity, I'd start with either side of the bridge over the ditch then the front entrance to the keep.

Good idea Mackayon, will start with the entrance, I think there were higher levels constructed each with another entrance, I'm thinking the corners and inside of the walls, possible locations of fireplaces if we can find them etc; has anyone any experience with finding items/caches inside Medieval Fortresses/ruins?

One concern I would have about hunting 'inside' any fallen structure would be the depth of debris (rock) that would lie between the 'goodies' and my detector. Outside the structure would not provide such a (depth) challenge for the detector.
