Hello, I found this piece of metal about 1ft down while metal detecting. I don’t know what metal it’s from, but I was thinking brass or lead. I thought the site dated from 1930’s due to some maps but now I am not sure. Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks! 17421A0E-1384-4505-A6B8-EEB1685CA49D.webpE11D8D07-E5B3-423B-8DBA-96187FAF4458.webp

Bullet jacket maybe? It'd help to know the size.

It has two attachment points on it where a handle might have gone .. My guess is that it's a smashed cup.

Scratch it a little in an inconspicuous place and see what color it is.

"Melted Metal Chunk" sounds like an ice cream.

That’s funny, it does sound like a flavor. I scratched my metal and it left behind dark scratches beneath the patina. I think it could be an alloy, because my detector read it as a coin, and rarely iron. Is it brass?

Brass should be brass color. It doesn't look like lead. Does a magnet stick to it?

It’s not magnetic, but I know it’s metal. Maybe the dark spot is green patina, and the yellowish is dirt.

I don't know .. maybe a pewter cup.. whatever metal it is, it looks like it was once a handled vessel of some sort.

Well I am not sure what metal it could be probably some strange alloy. I have one final question, what homestead era do melted chunks like this date from? Thanks for all the help!
