met the mayor and kinda choked

nearby smalltown im out detecting.

this is closest place to go and gas is too high.

ive detected this park a few times and no one ever

said anything. but u never know.

so up comes a guy on his golf cart thing.

he goes by i wave whew hes goin next door.

oops hes back..

geez im shakin in my shoes because its gonna

be mighty unhappy if i get asked to leave.

tryin hard to appear nonchalant and happy

flashbacks of quite a few pleasent afternoons

spent in the parks there.izzit history.

hi im the mayor here. @$%^&*& TRYIN not to shit my pants

turns out his dad detects and hes ok w it.

we had a visit although somewhat strained

so he gives me permission for all city property.

including ditch edges. wow. i was stunned .

he sez yeah the section from the ditch to edge of road

is city property.

dont have sidewalks. i was excited /nervous

and was trying to ask the right questions in the

few minutes he was there.

as he left i wondered if i had

said thank you properly

i should be able to fix it up w the post mistress

whos like the town info center.

ok so heres the question.


close town only place to go if it gets later afternoon

n im runnin late.

fun hunting the parks there but not a lot has been

found there.

if i go parkway hunting right away it might be

controversial. n cause trouble

would u advise

a. go right away while he can still remember what he said

b. detect the park only heavily for a week or so

then do some parklawns nearby.

wait awhile until post lady sez my mess recd.

Hey Scrounger, different settings here, bigger town, unpredictable neighborhoods.

But when I hit parkways, it's usually weekend mornings. That way if anyone has anything to say I'm there, they are there. Conflicts demonstrated and resolved immediately w/o need for official response.

Weekday mornings everyone is more "official-minded" and those are the only times the police have rolled up on me. But so far they've never gotten out of the car, just nodded and waived then called it back in.

Hey Scrounger what you got there is basically the KEY TO THE CITY!
If the MAYOR said you could detect all city property including the ditch
then go to it right away!

I don't know what town you're talking about but think about places people gathered or had special occasions.
Court house?
Police Station?
Schools?
Parks of course - you already hit them...
Abandoned/foreclosed property that now belongs to the city?
Old fairgrounds or stockyard or granary?
Swimmin hole?

If anyone seems to have a problem with you detecting on any city property, just tell them the mayor personally gave you permission and that should end it. What about meeting up with the mayor's dad (if he's in the same town) and taking him to some hunting spots he may have never been to yet?

Just make sure you aren't digging trenches and not filling them in nicely!
With as many detectors as you have and as many years detecting as you have under the belt, I'm sure you know how to make a spot look like almost nothing happened there when you're done.

Me on the other hand - well I sometimes dig holes so deep that I can't get all the dirt back in.
Which is surprising because those deep beer cans take up a lot of space...
