My son and I metal detect historic sites in Washington state. We have recently come across a cashé of early to mid 19th century boots. Intact, and some very well preserved in the moist ground, as well as a horde of personal items of the day. Does anyone have expertise in the preservation of leather? Please take a look at this dig, and if you have any suggestions, we would really appreciate it.

Pond's Cold Cream jar. Found at most ghost town sites. They used the heck out of that stuff.

Clean with saddle soap and apply Obenaufs leather oil. Then finish off with Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP.

You're welcome.
