Metal Detecting in the Snow Storm . . . AWESOME!

Dantheman and I got out there today in the blizzard-like conditions and dug some old stuff. We both got our hands on some coins that haven't seen the light of day in 140+ years. Anytime you do that, it's sweet! Here are some pictures of my finds from the last couple of hunts - including the group hunt dan hosted last weekend.

Thanks for the compliments! Re: The 2 "coins" - very interesting story there. The "coins" pair at the bottom are basically slightly larger than quarter sized coppers that are worn flat. My first thought is that they are well worn coins and very very old - but after examination by my self and my hunting partner with a magnifying glass - alas, they appear to be convincing copper disks. However, they have a slight ridge on the edge - and they also have that coin feel to them. Seriously, if you close your eyes and pick one up, you'd swear it was a large cent or the like. I don't have any idea why someone would make two disks that are the exact shape and size of a large copper - but here I have two from the same site found very deep in the ground. . . I suppose they "could" be coins that were buffed down. . . I have no idea why anyone would do that - perhaps counterfeit coins? I have no idea.

That Foster and Perry's token appears very old. I realize that it has a hole, but I think that one was dropped well before 1900 because the site was NOT on an 1870 plat map. The business appears to have been around early to mid 1800's. The front has a lock, the back has a cast iron stove.

Dan has some very interesting things I'm hoping he gets a chance to post.
