Hiked to a clearing today with the beep stick and found some nice impact lead but was sort of getting bored when it occurred to me to just metal detect the old trail (runs left to right in clearing picture) back to my car and just see what I get. Never really detected a trail before (this one was used in the colonial period) and had a blast with it! Found silver, coins, civil war, a Victorian butter/mayo knife and nothing was more than three inches deep due to the compacted nature of the soil. I was especially careful in backfilling holes to not create loose or low spots in trail but most of the targets were to one side or another of the trail proper. This was really fun just be-bopping along with my small 6 inch snipe coil, I know many similiar trails so am going to do this more often...nothing deep and plenty of targets! Hope your next hole is the one! Take care now.

That was a fun hunt, lots of targets for sure.
Congrats on the silver, copper, and lead.
There's always good recoveries just off the trails also.
Big park systems are great.

You had some fun and I really like the sterling diamond shaped..part of a brooch? Thanks for posting and more luck next time out. I'd go back, for sure.
It's a pin I think, thanks for looking :)

Thanks Pepper , yes public access detecting for the Timid :) ..that merc is a 1917 in AU condition thinking a $80 - $100 coin (saw several XF condition ones sell for $60 - $80 on ebay)

Nice job. I have had some random good luck swinging on trail edges heading to or from a spot. One of these days, perhaps I will make trail hunting the main focus, as you and others have had luck with that strategy. Congrats!

Great job! Old cart paths are good to hunt as they are so bumpy that things are bound to get lost. I've found some good things on them.

thank you, I am going to do the same it is pretty fun and easy digging

Good hunt! Looks like you have found the Key. Wise old detecting buddy shared some of his wisdom long ago. We were talking about detecting at the beach, people are in a hurry to get there, and then they're in a hurry to leave. That's why the paths are good spots!

I appreciate that Tony...seems you can find treasure anywhere if the mood/attitude is right but I am going to make sure to do more roadways, cartpaths, and trails for sure :)

I agree, XF all the way with split horizontal bands in two out of three places. If that coin still had luster it would likely grade AU. Best merc on tnet in a while. Congrats!
Thank you very much for confirmation, I have not graded coins in some time but was thinking bewtween XF and AU so killer find imo...so glad I just put in in pouch and did not rub it in field. Thank you for looking & happy swingin' to ya take care now.
