I've played guitar off and on for about 25 years now. I don't know if it actually helps me in this hobby any? I understand what you mean though, I guess it's a plus to have a good ear?!?

I get excited and don't even think to analyze the tone. I just start diggin'!

Lol! How long you been diggin'? I remember feeling that way too, and it wasn't long ago haha!

A little over 3 years although work and weather have kept me from it for some long spurts. That's not counting when I was a kid. I had a Jetco Mustang back in the early 70's and it was a lot of fun:) Used to hunt the old logging camps in the Sierra Mountains. The little Jetco would locate some iron trash and then I'd be diggin' old bottles in the same spot.

I play guitar and a little bass. I can whistle pretty good too. :laughing7:

Does that help me detect better? Nope! :icon_thumleft:

I would guess that being a musician helps with metal detecting about as much as metal detecting helps with being a musician.

Haha funny but true! That reminds me if the famous JKF quote! I wonder if he ever did any MDing?!?!

I am a flute maker and I enjoy digging up old stuff.

I was just wondering if those who have a talent for identifying detector tones also had musical abilities. I've known some musicians who had "perfect pitch" and could identify a note simply by ear. That always amazed me.
