I don't think it's a meteorite, but I could be wrong, you need to do some testing to help advance the possibilities of it being or not being a meteorite.

Here's a couple of links, the first is a site by Geoff Notkin, a very knowledgeable meteorite hunter a collector, this page on his site will help you further test your suspected meteorite, if it passes all the tests, then you will need to send a small slice/section to in to an expert for further testing/analysing.

This second link is to a site with many photos of "MeteorWrongs" rocks that aren't meteorites, just terrestrial/earth rocks.

I have hunted meteorites...and that does not look like any I have seen.

and if coal it will fracture easily and have a very distinct smell..

Coal is also light weight, while meteorites are heavy.

It could be hematite as well.

Take it to an expert.

Not coal very dense may hematite Finger Lakes region NYS
