Found this button today and I believe it to be a dragoon hat button 1830-1850's?
Any help with the ID would be great!
It is solid one piece and is about 9/16 in diameter.
Thanks!!! Josh

Nice Looking Button!

I have an identical one ( along with the buckle ) that I found on a Dragoon site that was only occupied the winter of 1842-1843.
Nice find!

Thanks guys for the info!

What you have there is called a Forage-Cap button. These were on the hat, where the leather strap connectd to the hat (2 on each hat). This is one of the few common buttons that was not even listed in the Bannermans button book. These were common down here in Florida throughout the Second Seminole War (1835-1842). These were not just Marines, but just about all branches of the military back then.

Cool find, congrats!

Congratulations. Great button. Thanks for sharing.

Its a Kepi Hat Side Button. I have found a number out in the U.T. at pre-CW sites. Good save.
