The past couple of weeks I've been working a terrific site that bordered one of DC's circle forts. I found lots of 3-ringers but I do not know enough to determine if some of the other stuff I found is Civil War-era.

Here are a few bits and pieces I was curious about. The second picture is the same as the first, except I turned everything over.

The thing that looks like a screwdriver handle I don't really think is that old. But I wonder what it is. It certainly looks similar to a screwdriver handle, but it has a hexagonal end and it's threaded just inside of it. It's hollow and I'm not sure what it's made of. It's nonmagnetic. I found three of them total, all exactly like this one. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Rastinirv, Neat finds. Don't know about the buckles. I think the object in the last 3 photos is a valve stem cover for a model T. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Hope this helps. HH Terry

By golly, I think you're right! There must be a fourth one out there...

The main object you are curious about is an antique car tire valve-stem cover, from approximately the 1910s/20s. I don't know specifically what kind. It might be from a Model-T Ford, which is the most commonly found version.

In the first photo, the object at upper right is a (broken) civil war sword scabbard-hanger swivel-snap. The very large D-shaped brass buckle is from horse-harness -- but it looks post-civil-war to me. The doubled-brass-wire object next to it is from a yankee soldier's Army-issue knapsack strap.

Thanks, Cannonball. It's nice to know I have found more than just 3-ringers now (though those are pretty cool too.) As for the valve-stem cover, this is pretty close and for a Model T...
