Found this yesterday at a site where we've found an eagle breast plate and service buttons. Didn't see the engraving until it dried. I'd tag maybe?
Could it be a campaign tag?

The depiction looks like it might be Winfield Scott (aka “Old Fuss and Feathers”), commanding General of the United States Army from 1841 to 1861.

Scott was the Whig Party's presidential nominee in the 1852 election (defeated by Democrat Franklin Pierce) and that might tie in with the 185? Patent date. Perhaps a watch fob produced for campaign supporters?

I think I found something like this a few years ago. I'll try to find a pic of it, and if a match, will try to post tomorrow evening.

Found it...see left artifact in the display case. Because it was in terrible condition I put a pic of a better one below. At was found at https://usamericana.com/products/winfield-scott-maj-gen-u-s-a?variant=39394500771922. Unfortunately, this link no longer works - but may find it elsewhere using an image search. On TNet there is similar at https://www.treasurenet.com/threads/franklin-pierce-medallion-and-military-buttons.579955/
Your Awesome!! Thanks you and others for your comments and leeds
