Found this silver medalion yesterday in an older torn down housing area. This college started out in 1855 as Wisc. Female College. It was one of the approximately 900 colleges founded in the United States before the Civil War In 1964 it was sold to University of Wisc. Milwaukee, and is no more. Had fun researching this college. Comes with the hobby.

Sit lux"-let there be light-becomes the college motto in 1910.

1848 In the beginning....
......Milwaukee Female Seminary, a precursor of Milwaukee-Downer College, is founded by Lucy Ann Seymour Parsons, a progressive educator from upstate New York who had followed her husband, a minister, to Milwaukee......
Very Very cool find!!! Lots of great history and a great relic of the past!
