Hello,

I am reluctant to post this because of the flame I might get. I don't know how else to interpret this "rock". I can't believe it left as much detail as to even have the pink spot at the end of the trunk.

Where should I go from here?

Posting over on the Geological Forums may get better replies.

Not trying to "Flame" you, but what significance does this rock have? Where did you come across it?

North Georgia(not known for fossils). An elephant trunk. At the end of the trunk is a pink don't with to air holes. I believe it is a cast fossil of an elephant skull with it's trunk circled around the mouth.

An elephant trunk is soft tissue, correct me if I am wrong, but that wouldn't have made a fossil, would it?

It doesn't look like sedimentary rock either, I was taught that bones fell into silt, were covered, and became fossils.

I don't want to "flame" you either brother, so I will go with: I like the way you think!

If you like it keep it. It appears to be a sedimentary rock. I dont see any fossilization and the pink spot may be a bit of stone concreted there when it formed. As to elephants well thats in the eye of the beholder.

in the last photo I see what looks to me to be a chiseled in "anchor" in the stone

There were no actual elephants in North America. There were however, mastodons, but the soft tissue does not fossilize and your rock is way too small for even a baby mastodon skull.

You need to post in treasure signs and symbols thread for more help. I know what elephant you might be seeing. Post your other stones there also.
