hi guys, i had tried to sell my minelab sovereign xs2 pro that i had bought new from KellyCo 10+ years ago, after i sent pics the person i was talking to point out that, that model did not have a variable tone switch and was modified.
i contacted kellyco both on the phone and via email and the reply i received was
" We would not have modified detector either, we had no repair center here at that time so if you bought it new then, that was how it came from the factory"

so then i contacted minelab directly and their reply was "HI Robert
No Minelab only had Switches on the front panel. It certainly does sound as if it has been modified"

im not trying to say anyone did anything wrong im just trying to find out how, what and huh? here are the pics , any input from kellyco would be awesome
xs1.webpxs.webp

thank you for any input

Mine is just like yours, but does not have the sticker saying variable tone. Mine also came from Kellyco. They are full of blue mud and had better do some more research. I am assuming that the sticker wore off from years of use. I have two of these detectors.

I was hoping someone from kellyco would see this and maybe do some research there for me since it was over ten years ago, and did not come from minelab that way

Don't think Kellyco is going to take the time to research that and really no reason for them to take the time to do so... Also the XS2 was first released in 1998 and is no longer supported by Minelab, there are no parts available for it so it can not not be repaired beyond a broken wire or maybe cold solder joint.........

TH i was just curious as to how it got there was all

Mine came from Kellyco in 99 & did not have a Variable tone switch.

Though there was an Option with some dealers where you could have it changed to a Single tone.

And I also saw advertised some with that switch

It was too long ago to say who was doing it..

though I Think Minelab produced a short run with the switch,
sometime After I owned mine.

thanks jeff like i said i was just trying to solve the mystery

When the sovereign first come out , there was some Complaints
that the Multi Tone was too hard on some users.
It may have been some BS out of Jealousy Aussies were outdoing Americans on Detector Technology,
I don't know.

But that was the Point where single tone BBS Options were being offered.

But I'm sure there was a short Run by Minelab with switches.
As to whether that was one of theirs.
Or if it was done on the Sovereign 2a Pro I can't be sure.

Oh, I understand, but it hasn't been produced in years, no one at Kellyco would know and someone would have to do extensive research to try to find out. I just meant it wouldn't be worth their time to research it.

Signature Line .... Trump 2016!

I think I remember people doing a mod like that. As I recall they would mount a switch on the handle, most had custom shafts too, which were popular at the time. The purpose was improved pinpointing as I recall
