Minelab xterrra 70 vs whites xlt

Well I have an X-terra 50 now and I have had the spectrum eagle in the past, which was the model right before the XLT.
This is a little comparison from my experience.
Xterra:
With the Xterra you have a choice of more frequencies by which coil you choose to use.
Xterra is easier to learn than the XLT.
Xterra is lighter than the XLT.
Xterra runs on 4 AA batteries.
Pinpoint feature (with concentretic coils only) cannot be beat!!
You can really go prospecting with the Xterra 70.
Xterras VDI numbers are large and easy to read.
No complicated program adjustments, all adjustments and settings are easy as a touch of a button.
XLT:
XLT has only one frequency option.
Whites XLT has more information on the screen other than a VDI number, which aids in cherry picking targets.
XLT has an LCD screen that can light up and see better in low light conditions.
There are several books for custom programs to help with certain search patterns for the XLT.
There are no books for the Xterra other than a DVD and instuction manual from Minelab.
There are several more options on adjusting and custom programs for the XLT
XLT takes 8 AA batteries.
XlT is a bit heavier.
XLT is a bit more complicated to program for custom settings.
In my opinion both are very good machines and certain people will tell you that either will not be a bad choice at all. They both seem to be in the same price range. My hunting buddy Mike here on T'Net uses an XLT. I use the X-terra 50. We are both happy with our units!!
It is just my honest opinion, Tim

Either is going to be a good machine.....It depends on what ya can get for what price..I have had the Eagle Spectrum, and am now on my 3rd XLT (not because they broke, but because I have too many hobbies..Long story)..Tim is shooting you strait and being honest about it..The XLT is a turn and go machine with preset programs, but then ya can "Tweak it".. You have basic adjustments and the "Pro Options" I tend to stay away from the Pro options if I tweak it at all.. Now I do believe strait-out the box the MineLab will probably get deeper and is also a Turn-and-go machine..Guess it all depends on YOU, your soil, and what ya hunt...Soon I want to swap detectors with Tim for a day and try the XTerra..And make a decision on what I like better here where we hunt.. I came close to buying one..But I have been use'n a White's for 30+ years off-and-on....Unless your a hard-core hunter..Use the KISS formula (Keep it Simple Stupid)....I don't want to seem biased in any way here because I like both these machines...Guess if Money was no object I'd get one of those MineLabs 4000s! :) It's up to you, you'll be happy with either! If I can help ( and although I do not speak for Tim ) I am sure we'd both answer any questions you may still have;) Please let me know if I can help more, and I know Tim doesn't mind either, he's a good guy and I am happy to have him as a friend. :)

Mike

And he went for the MineLab!!! Let us know what ya think and post them finds! Good luck to ya!

So which one did you get, Minelab or XLT? Either way you picked a winner!!!

Minelab xterra 70,since I do own a xlt. I got it on a trade from dazoff(nice guy),here on treasurenet, for some gold items I had.

Well that is great...........I went ahead and got a new 10" DD coil mid freq and a high freq 6" DD coil, like new ,from another T'Net member on here. I have not used the 6" HF coil yet but I will probably try it out soon. I think you will like it very much. You have a few more options with your 70 than I do with my 50. I chose the 50 because I do not think I will ever be doing any prospecting. I hope you enjoy!! Tim

I have never had a minelab before, figure I would something new.Looking forward to new experiences with it .Keep it touch and thanks again! Happy Holidays!!!
