Don and I went and hit an older town on these two hunts. Small town that my Dad had some intel on when he was a kid. He used to watch movies as a young kid in a yard that the locals set up every weekend. They would pull a truck into the lot, set up a screen and a snack stand and all the kids would sit around and watch movies back then. That would be around 1945. Not too old, but for sentimental value we were enthusiastic about going out there to see what we could find.

Got permission quite easily from the homeowner and we were off and hunting. The first day we went directly to the yard where my Dad said he watched the shows. Hmmmm...Not much to be found. A couple clad and a toy car. Kept going further back into the property and snagged our first wheatie. A 1928. Not bad but we wanted more. After several more wheatie discoveries Don yelled out that our streak was alive...a 1924 Mercury dime. Sweeet. So we relaxed and found a few more cars and a couple more wheaties. All in an area about 20 feet by 20 feet. Must have been where the snack stand was located. So after a full day we decided to come back the next day to try our luck on the other part of the massive yard and horse training area.

On to find another silver...hopefully....Not too long in to this days hunt I located a sterling silver ring with some eagles on both sides. Pretty poor shape but what the heck it was silver. Don located another ring with turquoise stones, another silver find for the day. Continued the car campaign too...8 cars in all.

I located the badge "Scoop Ward" Youth Reporter. Pretty cool find from a bread company I guess. I also located the "Whatzit" brass thingy. Looks almost like a Plumb Bob but not sure. The athletic medal soon followed as did the aluminum token from Washington State/obverse from New Hampshire..Not sure what the heck that came from. All in all not a bad two day hunt. The streak intact we are going for more soon. We can never match the Captn but it sure is fun trying..LOL...Also had a weird pocket spill...Found a pen, a marble and a 5 centavos mexican coin in one hole. On a side note I took a look at the COINSTAR located in the local market....found over $1.00 in chump change but got a german coin and a couple canadians..Not bad for free....HA..People leave money just laying in the return..HH and be safe out there...jgas

Can we see some better pics of the eagle ring you found? What is on the top of the ring?

very nice job dude! :) looks like you got a nice assortment of stuff! :)

What an awesome variety of treasure.
The badge is very cool.

I was going to say,

"Will you try and track down Scoop Ward to give him his badge back? "

but I decided not to. ;D

I decided I would search for him myself; and I found him

"Scoop Ward
Did you know that American media has always encouraged its youth to take interest in the daily news? Fifty years before Nickelodeon's Nick News campaign with Linda Ellerbee, CBS radio launched a program called News of Youth, and its fictional kid journalist was Scoop Ward.

Scoop Ward was the original creation of Ward's Soft Bun bread and Silver Queen pound cake, who sponsored the program. Scoop, who also went by the name of Laddie Seaman ("off air"), delivered real news to teenage audiences between the years of 1935 and 1937.

Though little is known about how effective this program was in getting younger people interested in the daily workings of their nation, we can only assume that, despite its short run, it impacted a generation and influenced future comics creators."

Those are some solid finds man.

I have the same exact torch tip found in my yard to. Love the badge. Was it bent or did you hit it.

HH Jer

Thanks for all the replies. As far as the ring goes with the eagles on both sides, There is nothing on top. It appears to be missing something. The underside is broken as well. The brass thing I would have never guessed a cutting torch tip. Pretty cool. The badge was bent over and I foolishly attempted to bend it back without adding heat first.. Still in fairly decent shape for 1935/37. Thanks again for the replies all.....HH and be safe out there. ;D jgas
