Minie ball? Id and time period?

Not a minie ball. To get a good ID need exact measurement in diameter, length, and weight. :icon_scratch:

TNGuns is correct, it is not a Minie-ball.

Of course, truly measurement of the bullet's diameter and length (in hundredths-of-an-inch) are needed for a 100%-definite ID. But your bullet appears to be a .45-70-455 bullet, for the Model-1873 Springfield Rifle (also known as the .45-70 "Government" rifle). It was used throughout the Indian Wars era, and a few were used in the Spanish-American War. Here's a photo showing the longer (and heavier) version next to your .45-70-455 (which was made for the Carbine version of the .45-70 rifle). The two in the photo were found at the 1977-and-later Fort Custer (Montana) outdoor target-range. They show rifling-marks on their sides because they've been fired.
