Mining Area Find

[Luck Be a Lady]

I found this while detecting around an old mining area near Oatman, AZ. It was just laying on the ground and I picked it up.......

The overall length is 6 inches and the diameter is 3/4 inch. The little cap on the end unscrews. The shaft itself is a very lightweight material. carbon? graphite? I don't know much about mining, so any help you can give will be appreciated. Thanks!
