So as mentioned in the title, the MN deer hunting season started this past weekend and I took my annual pilgrimage to my parent's house for the weekend. And since I could, I took Friday off and took a different route than I typically do and did some bank hopping along the way.

Ended up stopping at 24 banks, before closing time finally stopped me.
Picked up the following over all banks combined...
$961 in loose half dollars
1 - $500 bag of dimes
1 - $200 bag of nickels
2 - $100 bags of nickels
3 - $50 bags of pennies
3 - $25 bags of pennies

I had searched through the "known good bag of halves" when I first got to my parents ($161 worth), and had edge-scanned most of the rest as I was driving, but today I finally finished with the full half dollar search so I can post my results

In the "good" $161 was the following (good variety):

1 Walking Liberty (1917)

1 Franklin (1961-D)

3 - 90% Kennedy (1964, 1964-D(2))

2 - 40% Kennedy (1965, 1968-D)

3 Canadian 2-Dollar (1996, 2004, 2006-RCM)

4 Foreign
Denmark, 2 kroner 1892. King Christian IX and Queen Louise, Golden Wedding Anniversary. <--silver http://www.gladsaxegymnasium.dk/2/soemod/18881892.htm The second coin down is mine..if only I could read danish...
Great Britain, Half Crown (1922) <---silver
Mexico, 20 Centavos (1953, 1973)

First National Bank of St. Paul 100 Years token (1953)
Post Exchange Token - Ft. McPherson, GA (25 cents)
Camp Ripley National Guard Training Token.
Religious Medal,
Free Beer or Bar Rail at G-Spot Timberland, WI

1 Quarter
1 Penny

And in the rest of the halves there was the following:
4 - 40% Kennedy (1967(3), 1969-D)

11 NIFC (2004-P, 2006-P(5), 2006-D(3), 2007-P, 2007-D)

1 Proof Kennedy (1972-S)

1 - 1974-D DDO

Now I just need to find time to search through the rest of the coins.... :)

Note..the walker was my first of the year and my oldest half dollar ever.

Tonight I went through the $500 bag of dimes
1 Mercury (1942)

1 pre-1965 Roosevelt (1960-D)

10 Canadian (1945, 1964, 1968 nickel flat grooves, 1974, 1976, 1979, 1987, 1992, 1994, 1995)

1 Foreign (Great Britain, 1/2 New Penny (1971))

7 Pennies

I also went through the $50 bag of pennies from the same stop as the $161 in half dollars....great bag.

73 wheat pennies (1909, 1913, 1916-D, 1917-D, 1919-D, 1920, 1934, 1937, 1939, 1940, 1940-D, 1941, 1941-D(3), 1942, 1943-D, 1944(5), 1944-D, 1944-S(4), 1945(4), 1945-D(2), 1946(2), 1946-D(4), 1947-D(2), 1950-D, 1951-D(2), 1952-D(6), 1952-S, 1953, 1953-D, 1953-S, 1954-D(2), 1955-D(2), 1956, 1956-D(2), 1957-D(5), 1958-D(7))

38 Canadian (1945, 1951, 1960, 1961(2), 1963, 1964(3), 1965, 1966, 1970, 1974, 1975(2), 1976(2), 1977(3), 1978(2), 1980, 1981(3), 1982, 1985, 1986, 1989(2), 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1998, 2000, 2002)

I wonder how the $200 in nickels from that stop will be...guess those'll have to wait until later.

Grats on that walker!

Not a bad stash from the halves.

Dimes didn't produce too well, but it fall in line with my own personal averages from them, and it certainly beats a skunk!

Good luck on the rest of it!

Interesting coins there - some really nice finds. It seems like the NIFC seem to be showing up more and more. Look forward to the next report!

:laughing3:....just had this vision of you sitting in a treestand checking coins while the deer walked right past you ;D

I live here in Montana and hunting season is on. opening day got a MD doe went out 2 days ago and got a WT doe and went out this morning got a WT buck 3x3 There was a 5x6 with him but I passed on him because the smaller bucks have better meat. A guy watching (about a 3/4 mile away) asked why I passed on the big one to take the smaller one and I said better eating. The rut is starting and the big bucks get to tasting bad.

Your diligence paid off, good work on the silver and copper!

Question, do you guys detect while you hunt?

agreed....its nice to know not everyone is a trophy hunter.....i too would rather shoot a doe or small buck for the meat

Finished the rest of the bags over the weekend...nothing too exciting other than a couple of older foreign coins

Not a single US nickel that I didn't already have a roll of or was a war nickel out of $400 worth....disappointing..
