My day started of with a little surprise, a wheatie in the penny cup at the gas station. lol I had found a penny on the floor when I walked into it so I traded that penny for the wheatie. LOL

Then I found a dime outside the video store. I made my way to the bank to pick up two boxes of halves, and the results are:

Box 1: SKUNK

Box 2: 6-40% silver halves

1988S Proof

1992 S Proof

I also searched $345.00 in dimes and found 1-1962D silver Rosie. ;D

Nice. Every little bit helps. I've even seen an IH in one of those penny trays but I guarantee-it wasn't there when I left. ;)

Dang those are nice totals at the bottom. Congrats!

Oh boy if I ever spot an Indian Head cent in a penny tray, I would flip out quietly on the inside. Attack that tray like a Nina, quickly and quietly where no one sees you. LOL

The only IH I have ever found required 3 hours of detecting and 6 inches of digging... NICE LOOKOUT ON THAT ONE. I am envious of you. You got it without sweat, dirty hands, drained batteries,...

You know, it is funny but because of this hobby, people like us are ALWAYS on the lookout for stuff like that.

Treasure is everywhere! Amazing what you will find if you keep your eyes open. Nice finds....

p.s. just went through $500 in dimes...nothing. :(

KW, I'm sorry to hear that. :( Continue to search dimes, you will find them!

I've been trying to look for banks that a lot of elderly people bank at. That's where I've been trying to buy the majority of dimes or nickels. Everytime I go to a new bank I always scope out the customers in line, seeing part of their clientele.

Just went through another $500...Got 2 1963 Roosies, 1 1958 Costa Rican 10 centimes, and 1 1983 gold(?) plated Roosie. Have found the gold halves before...this was the first dime....

sounds like the time i went into a very small bread and snack cake shop. they had this HUGE tip jar. it was one of those cottage cheese buckets and it was 1/4 full of cents. i looked in there when the cashier wan't looking and stired it with my hand to see if i could see any old coins! no luck though :'(

Congratualtions on the silver Roosies! ;D I have a gold plated Roosie as well, someone gave it to my mom about 15 years ago and she gave it to me. I don't think mine is circulated,it looks absoultely beautiful(1989D) and I just like looking at it. LOL ;D Also nice going on the foreign coin!

CL, At least you tried! ;) I also look in the little tip jar at Quizzno's. LOL Of course if I saw anythign in there I would replace it or throw a higher denomination coin in.

I started with dimes and then moved on to the harder stuff...halves! I use dimes when I can't score an halves.... ;D Think I'm up to a couple + rolls of Roosies and a dozen or so Mercs...

Nice job PW. On those dimes....I would need a magifying glass to see those dates to check for silver...lol. Does the silver stick out like the halves do? Can you tell the silver coins from the rims?

The dimes are just like miniature halves...When you look at them on edge they show up like 90% halves...I've gotten to the point where I can usually guess if the dime is a Merc, Roosie, or Canadian. It's fun to search them when halves are scarce! The BofA's around here have them in clear plastic rolls to I can search $1000 in about 20 minutes....usually find an average of 4-12 per $1000.

LJ, It's just like KW said you can look at the edge and spot them just like the halves. They really do stick out! I dump the roll into my left hand and visually scan all edges of all the dimes and if I have any doubts about one, I'll pull it out and look the date. I can tell a Canadian dime VS a silver US dime already. LOL

I haven't found any Mercs yet,but I'll keep looking for them.

Nickels take the longest for me to search as I do have to look at each date.

PW & Killerwine....thanks for the info.....may try a box one day.
