Detector(s) used
Pioneer 505, Explorer II
I have been finding it very hard lately to find a place to go metal detecting in the evening that is not to far away from my home.
The parks at this time of year are to full of people what with kids soccer practice etc. going on.
All of this made me try some detecting in a out of the way part of a local park and it paid of handsomely.
Here is what I found at the base of a very large pine tree that the branches went all the way to the ground.
I stuck my detector at arms length under the lowest branches towards the trunk of the tree and stared to get multiple hits that sounded like coins, next I crawled under the branches with my explorer, took the Sunray pinpointer of of it, pinpointed a coin, dug a little and for the next hour until it was to dark to see kept finding multiple coins at 1 to 3 inches just using the sound of the pinpointer through the headphones as it was to hard to utilize the detector crouched down with knees bent for over an hour.
My back hurt for a while afterwards.

My finds
1901 o Barber dime
1944 Mercury dime
1909 Indian head cent
1929 wheat cent
1957 D wheat cent

1996 Jamaican dollar
1971 English 2 penny
1989 English 1 penny

10 quarters
56 dimes
43 nickels
190 1 cent pieces
Total just over $12

I guess that over the years, all those kids climbing that tree, spilled their pockets (ca. 1901 to 1996).

Cool finds, and welcome to T'Net!
I have a feeling the tree was used for something else.

Hangin' tree?

branches low to the ground for cover, LOTS of lose change everywhere, hmmm.... guessing coins weren't the only thing lost under that tree.

You found that in Denver? That must have been some very out of the way park.

WE MUST INCREASE "OPERATIONS" IN YOUR AREA!

Need help, the Zombie Coin King is coming to get me.

Wow.....money tree indeed! Yeah, my guess is that it was just a nice shady place to sit and relax for awhile. Get your minds outta the gutter people! ::) WTG on the clad count and cool old coinage! :icon_thumright:

Congrats on the finds............

Denver

You may have found the only place in Denver where to find old silver. Kudos!

Congrats on a great pile of coins! Love the oldies!

Are you saying you don't think coins were the only thing lost under that tree?

I would guess that it was either used by more than one couple, or they were being let out of a care facility for visits to the tree!

Best of Luck,
Mark
