So right before i got married a month ago I was able to get out. Here are my finds from then and the last week. First up my LAST DIG as a single man! OH how i miss the freedom! SideBar| VMI texted me a picture of his latest Brit Rev war button about 10 minutes before i walked down the aisle...SOB!

Here are a couple of overall shots. Some from VMI and I's sifting that day and some from detecting on land and on the coast. All at the same Colonial/CW spot we have been hitting for months now.

Next pictures are of my first blowhole button! Found while sifting. I hear maybe mid to late 18th century? Then a tombac button.

This glass is interesting. Look like bases to wine glasses/goblets. the bottom is in a swirl pattern. not sure if anyone can date these but figured id take a shot.

Here are the finds from the last week! First up was a Token. At first I thought Ike and VMI thought this as well. Then the more i looked at it the more i thought younger FDR. Did quite a bit of research on it then i found a match! I then found the same one on eBay and bought it thinking that it would display better with one where you can make out all the details. Here is the info on the token. Franklin D. Roosevelt Coins and "Lucky Tillicums" - Tokens and Medals it is the third one down. Seems like they were made for supporters of FDR in the early 1930's.

This pipe stem looks like its part of the bottom of a pipe. On one side you can see a "D" and on the other side it looked like "T". Wonder if there is a database with initials for pipes.

This two piece button got me really excited when I dug it out of the pluff mud. I dug it about 3 feet from where VMI dug his cut silver piece a few posts ago. I took it home and soaked it in oil for days and still nothing. It looks pretty roached.

Here are all the brass bits and porcelain. Some buck and ball (i think thats what it is called) and some rivets not sure if they are CW belt rivets or horse saddle rivets or what but they were found in the area where we have dug CW bullets and buttons. Found a part of a skeleton key, wish i could have found the rest of it. few whatits in there. Then the pottery/china/porcelain is a good bunch of color. once piece of Feather/Shell edge pearl and a really interesting piece of yellow with a tree on it.

I have not dug a piece of lantern until the last week in which I dug 3 different pieces in three different spots. two were on the coast and another was on land where VMI have covered a couple 100 times! it was pretty deep and I've been running open trying to hear chirps and whispers and this was one of them. The one wick adjuster knobby thingy (someone tell me the name of it lol) has a patent date on it of Sept 19th 1868. Pretty cool not sure if y'all can see it or not maybe if you can zoom in on it. Either way i was pretty pumped about these.

Not sure if anyone remembers but i found a piece of porcelain and so did VMI while sifting then later i noticed that they go together so here is the piece glued together. maybe we can find the rest of it.

Real nice pile of early goodies there Stef. BTW - the TD mark on the heel of your pipe bowl is likely from Thomas Dormer who was a London pipemaker from 1748-1770. I'll have a 3 page listing of British pipemakers as an Appendix to my book coming out next year containing info on the most common pipes found in the colonies.

Awesome Bill! Thanks a lot. Cant wait for the book to come out!

Nice piles of finds Stef, the blowhole button in the first sifted pile may have set our expectations a bit high though lol. Congrats again on your recent nuptials, now back to digging

Great stuff. That button with the 2 air holes in the back goes back to the French and Indian War period.

Very nice array of finds, old married man! I like the pottery shards and great job matching the two pieces together. Congrats on finding your first blowhole button and the FDR token is really cool-keep up the good work

You better not be digging up gold coins without me today!

Nice discoveries and great pics/write up!

Great stuff man! Thanks for the great write up as well!

Thanks for the very nice write-up, congratulations on the relics! :occasion14:

Very nice selection of oldies. Congrats.

Best wishes for the holidays!

Another great variety of finds! Sifting certainly has its advantages. I'll probably never find one of those pipe stems, and a broken pottery collage would make a great display. Anyway, your best find thus far was probably the one you walked down the aisle with; so congrats on your finds and marriage!

Awesome finds man! Great post, pictures and write up too. Huge congratulations on your first blowhole. I think I only have two of those and they seem hard to find (for me at least). I really like those shards and glass bases too. Its great to see some other people getting out there sifting and I really enjoy these posts. I went out this morning and opened a section and it was a pretty miserable section... a bust and not enough to post.

Thanks Tommy! Yeah the wife is a treasure for sure. VMI and I have found a pretty good area that looks like it was used as a walkway and dumping grounds for late 18th to late 19th century. I was digging just test plugs around the same area and one plug i turned over and at the bottom looking right at me was a pipe stem and that nice piece of shell edge porcelain. It looked like someone had laid it there for me lol. They are out there!

Thank you sir! The sifting is addicting for sure. VMI and I have a lot more to do with about another 3-4 possible new areas on the same property. We could literally sift all winter. The first patch we did yielded 3 buttons that blowhole, a bone 4 hole, and a silvery cuff civilian button. Then after that no more nonferrous just a bunch of pottery and iron nails. I'm confident there are more relics however. Good luck out there and hope you find a good sifting area.
