More "Pesky" Mercs and Rosies ~ 3 Silver Rings ~ 39 Wheats - '10S Semi Key

Hello Everyone,

The So. Cal Crew has decided to lay off of our "honey hole" barber/injun site for a while to give the ground a chance to recoup. So, in the meantime, we've been hunting mostly heavily Explorer'ed sites, and still scored silver at all of them. Yesterday, Jon(goldenapples), Mike(oknorom) and I tried out an old/new park in my city that I researched a while back. It's a teen-20's park. Jon arrived first at the park yesterday, and scored a nice "first" for him. Nice going, Jon!! Mike and I were excited and couldn't wait to get there, but after 4 hours of hunting this park, we could tell that this park had been pillaged of most oldies. I managed a rosie and a cut merc, along with 3 silver rings. One of the rings is a mix of 10 Kt. gold fill and silver. After having lunch, we went to a site with beautiful ocean views and I scored another pesky merc and some wheaties. I'll take those "pesky" suckers any detecting day of the year!!

Also in my pic is a 1937 one centavo Mexican coin, along with a semi-key 1910 S wheat.

Hello Donny. Thanks for your reply.
We haven't had much succes in filming any oldies lately. Just bad luck, I guess. Sometimes we're so far apart from each other, that it doesn't make sense to holler for him to come over and film a dig, which potentially could turn out to be a 60's-70's copper memorial penny. We tried a couple times last week to get a silver dig, but it seemed like evertime he wasn't filming, I'd find a silver. I'm sure we'll get more oldies on film, but can't say when it will happen.

No problem, I need to stop being lazy and film some goodies to. I just get so preoccupied when digging.
I had my camera with me when I dug up those coppas earlyer this year, but all I did was take some pics of them in the ground. (I never did post all of them)
I think I need another person to film properly

Did you ever wonder why it's always the silver that seems to get the "blade" when they cut the grass?
I'll bet you probably have enough "pieces of dime" from past hunts that would fit that Merc perfectly

Thanks, Watercolor. Trust me, it's just not the silver that gets the blade at our parks. Everything does. I just don't post all the cut clad. I throw it in my trash pouch. Lots of cut wheaties too.

Nice "stuff" Dan. Sat. I found a cut barber dime which is only the 3rd piece of cut silver that I have ever found. You seem to find alot of cut coins and I was wondering if it is because of the type of grass you have in Cal. Several years ago I was hunting a nice park in El centro Cal. and did pretty good. I had quite a few barbers and a really nice 1917 obv s walker. If this is not to far for you to drive you might want to make it a day trip.

With all those wheat cents you've been digging you have to be getting a nice collection of semi-key dates!! Always do enjoy your posts and all those "cut" dimes!! I'm amazed at the amount of cut dimes you guys find and wonder if you ever check to see if they ever fit previous cut coins?? Great pics and super finds!! Congrats!

Thanks, Les. I think it's the frequency(weekly) and type of mowers used here that chops the heck out of anything in the ground for the past 40+ years. It's the blade style type of mower...actually a whole series of them on either side of the driver. And they practically cut it too the root here...you see lots of dry grass after they're done cutting.

El Centro, huh? It's a long trip for me (over 200 mi. one way). But thanks for the tip.

Thanks, Jack! I haven't counted my wheaties this for this year, but I'm sure I have over 1000. I always check to see if I can find the other piece of cut silver/wheat coin. I've found matching pieces once with a Rosie (same hunt), and with a Washington (two separate hunts). I've done it a few times with wheaties too.
