It's almost like scrapping fingernails on a chalk board, but I have this neighbor that when he needs to go to work, he gets in his vehicle and revs the motor so it'll warm up faster. He's probably hitting 6K rpm in the drive way. His does it over an over again. I can't stand it and it's hurt my brain thinking what' going on in that engine compartment. Coming from a background that knows how engines work, it really works on me.
To everyone else. The proper way to start a car (on older cars), is the pump the peddle one time, turn the ignition and after it starts, let it idle for at least a few moments without reeving it (at least a half minute when it's very cold). NEVER EVER rev your engine when it has just started up because all the lubrication is still in the oil pan and hasn't made it's way up into all the ports and reservoirs yet. Its' also important not to stress your engine when it's cold because the metal needs time to expand before it can function as it was intended. The engine was designed to work most efficiently when all parts have heated up to operating temperature. Reeving it when it's cold is a very good way to need another car in a year or two.
Newer cars, everything still applies, you just don't need to pump the peddle one time. The injection does this for you.
