Muslim medallion?

I didn't dig this up, but wondered if anyone had insight to an age (or ANY info) on this type of thing. It's attached to a set of WW1 dogtags that had been in my family home's attic since the twenties. So I presume this was picked up "over there" (middle east/turkey?) in WW1. It's the thickness of a dime and a diameter of just over 1-1/4". So, until the ground thaws here in NH, this is the only interesting thing I could post.
