MXT 12x15" SEF Coil, Dose it again !!

Hello, :hello:

Went to hunt the old hunted out Hotel site today. :dontknow: Started out ruff and hot about 1-2 hrs into the hunt found a few wheat's. Later hunted the area we pounded hard and found silver hidden way down under some roots. :o Maybe about 7 inches down found a lump of dirt with a silver edge. :laughing9: It gave a faint silver whisper jumping around from 80-82 to 74-78 so penny dime range, on the MXT. :dontknow: The dirt was well caked on so had to wait to clean it up at home. :icon_thumleft: I was hoping for another seated but it cleaned up bad under cold water. :icon_scratch: However we could tell it was a Merc it was still badly corroded with black tar like stuff and some scum. :tongue3: Sooooo..... I zapped it !! Heh, :laughing7: in the electrolysis bath it fried it but it cleaned up nicer than it was. :headbang: Here are some before, during and after pictures I hope you like them !! :notworthy:

Keep @ it and HH !! :D ;D

:laughing9: :laughing9: Frying coins is a bad practice... Actually that one almost looks like the oxidation happened before you zapped it.. I've had some like that and zapped them in hopes it would go away and they turned out to look the same way if not worse.. keep hitting it, those seated's will pop up when u least expect it

I will agree mostly with the statement about using electrolysis on coins.

I have bad/good luck with finding burned coins of every type, and I have found that after exposure to prolonged fire, and often subsequent burial in burned sediments that electrolysis can be the only practical method of making the artifact identifiable. It is definitely to be reserved for the real tough luck cases.

there are artifacts in Colorado ??? :laughing7: just messin with ya plehbah.. cherish those gold rings and mercs

Hello, :hello:

Thanks you for the comments. :notworthy:

:read2: When it comes to frying coins. You have to choose wisely. :icon_scratch: I don't suggest doing to clean up dirty copper pennies. Corroded pennies tend to vanish if fried to long and small items have a risk too. :o Silver coins with lots of tar/crud are the perfect candidate for frying. :icon_thumleft: The silver can stand up to the current no problem and the junk just falls off. :headbang: Sometimes the effect can be achevied in just seconds after contact of current but. :dontknow: Sometimes you have to cook them a long time. :laughing7: In most cases 20 min is good at 15v or 1amp. :icon_thumleft: Personally I think it worked wonders on this dime. :o :hello2: I could not clean it with a brush it would not clean any more than in the dirty pic and it looked very ugly to me. >:( I think the pitting was on there before I zapped it like you said. :icon_scratch: I'm happy with the results as you can see in the picture... :icon_thumleft:

Keep @ it and HH !! :D ;D
