In the Whites line, I really like the MXT, but I don NOT gold hunt, nor will I in the future, so I dont need that aspect of the machine..I have also read that the MXT is a bit sensitive to power lines, and a bit noisy, and such..(is this true??) The reason was stated that it was originaly designed to be a gold hunter...Also, I have not seen any really small coils for this unit, or have I just missed them???..I want a coin shooter, what in the Whites line is considered the best for coin shooting, and RARELY a bit of beach work (not much 5% of the time)..Maybe another 5% on relics..I like the MXT, and am leaning towards it, but if there is a better coin shooter in the Whites line please tell me about it...Ease of operation is important to me..Im not a super techo button pusher....Also must be able to see the screen, as the ol eyes arent as good anymore...Sorry to be a bother, I know these questions get ask alot, but this will be the most i've ever spent, and it wont happen again..600 to 750 is the limit...Thanks for any help.Right now im using a Garret Ace 250 with the small Sniper coil (which is a must for trashy areas with this unit), it is ok, but want something with a bit more power...Tom

I have hunted with mine for about a year never had one problem with it and found a lot of cool stuff rings seated dime (1840) wheat cents and alot more its good detector. I haven't hunted gold yet so I dont know how it works but I do live in the middel of the gold rush area of california so i might try it soon and will let you know how it does. The only thing ive heard about it that is weird is gold coins give a pulltab reading, dont know if it is true just what I heard. YOu should also look at the minelab x-70 I hear that thing is lite and goes deep im considering one they have good reveiws .

If I were you, I'd also consider the M-6. It has multi tone I.D., which the MXT doesn't, and is damn near foolproof to operate!

As for coils, the DFX, MXT, and M-6 use the same coils. There are 5.3 concentrics, 4 X 6 DD, and various other larger sizes.

I did not know they used the same coils...Thanks alot....I may look at the M-6.....Tom

I have been using an MXT since mid June. I have the standard 9.5" coil, the 4X6, the5.3, and the 6X10. The 4X6 is wonderful in heavy trash, the 5.3 nearly as good and a bit deeper. The 8X10 is better than the 9.5 in trash with good depth and ground coverage and is becoming my most used coil. I think these statements will hold true with the other machines that these coils fit, as well. One thing for sure, the additional coils add a lot of versatility to your machine. As a thought for those that aren't sure which way to jump, the 4X6 is noticably better in heavy trash than even the 5.3. Of course one pays a penalty in ground coverage and depth although the 4X6 will pick up the majority of coins in the parks and yards I hunt. It just forces me to go slow and be thorough which isn't a bad thing.
Happy huntin,
Bill

2 cents... The M6 is nice. Multitone... But the MXT is just a little more chatter recognition style detectoring. A bit more cantered towards versatility. The M6 does a excellent job. Speed... M6 .... Picky sound with eyes tied to the screen...MXT. I went MXT. I like picky..... You can play with the MXT settings quick for additional information about a target... Oddly slow.. But my preference.

I copied this from one of my posts from awhile back.

You are going to have to buy coils and other things. Look at the M6 or the MXT. Both great detectors and enough $ left to get a small coil and maybe the super 12 or a Sunray probe. That would be a great set up for the $.

My dealers regular prices and he discounts even more when you purchase multiple items. Also Whites many times have promotions going with the purchase of a detector such as a coupon towards a coil, pinpointer, headphones, diggers etc. I bought a Sunray DX1 probe and Super 12 coil at the same time. Sold me the probe for 157.92 and the Super 12 for 196.26.

MXT 679.95
M6 594.95

4X6 Eclipse DD coil 127.45
5.3 Eclipse coil 127.45
Super 12 coil 212.00
Sunray DX1 probe 170.95

Dang, I was just sitting here figuring this up and would be a fantastic set up for 1000.00
M6 594.95
4X6 or 5.3 coil 127.45
Sunray DX1 170.95
Lesche digger 42.95
Pro Gold phones 98.95

total 1,035.25 And this is before any extra discount for purchasing multiple items.

There is not a detector made today that I would give up my MXT for but for your stated purposes the M6 would serve you well and you could put the money saved towards an accessory.

Anyway, whatever you decide, good luck to you and HH.

Been using a MXT for four years now and love it. Great on coins, and gold. Tried it on relic mode, with no good finds yet. Yes it is noisy, but you get used to it. On coils, 4X6 is great for close places, I use it for gold detecting. For coins I love the Big Foot, great coil with great depth.

Have to agree with Tin Nugget on getting a package deal. Check out http://www.kellycodetectors.com/indexmain.htm, they are having some great deals now. I have the Bullseye II probe, love it.

Have you thought about the XLT? Another great Whites detector, with less noise and covers the same depth.

Hope this helps.

Right now, if I wanted a back up MXT I can get it used for $484.00 with standard coil. That includes shipping. New it would cost me 678.00 shipping included. 4x6 DD for DFX and MXT $99.00.
I picked up the 5.3 coil for myMXT for $125.00 plus $5 shipping.

A used Ace 250 is only $148.00 but I already have one of those!(:-) 8)

There are some really good deals to be had if one takes the time to shop around. I won't shop at KellyCo anymore, not that they are a bad company; they have their bottom line they have to meet. Its just that when it gets down to saving dollars I can do better than KellyCo.

I like the DFX but you will dig a lot of pulltabs, they read everywhere on the meter according to what type and how they are bent! No help with tone ID either.
