It really depends on the size of the ring and gold content, alot of the rings will fall between 14 to 20 VDI, but had a thicker gold band come in at 50VDI last year and had a class ring a few years ago come in at 60VDI so it really depends but most gold rings aren't that thick. I mostly hunt by sound but just like alot of other detectors if your out for gold rings your going to dig more trash than if you were just detecting for silver. Only reason I dug the 50VDI band is alot of times IH's come in at about 52VDI so I was thinking it was an IH and it was pretty deep at an old 1800's home. HH
 

Thanks for the info on the vdi's suppose to be nice today going to get out and do some digging.

my brother in laws gold ring came in at 45 v.d.i it said ring too
that number gets dug all the time it's lead if it not gold
even the 5900 is lead like in bullets
never a pull tab either mechine

My mother in law has a small 14k ring in it came in at a solid 6 vdi.
