My 2nd liberty quarter, other silvers not a bad day

Whats with these liberty quarters and the date getting worn away. This is my second one i found, this being in much better shape but the date area is flat! err..

a bunch of bullets where nobody should be firing them. Some copper stuff. All in all, another fun outing.

Those standing liberty quarters are tough to get dates from- similar to the buffalo nickels. It's the highest relief point on either coin that is worn first, so if either is in circulation for any significant period of time before being dropped, chances are they will be tough to get a date from. Nice finds, though! Despite having no date, that's a nice SLQ.

From Wikipedia: "By late 1924, Mint officials realized there was a problem with the quarter in circulation. Quarters were returning to the Mint with the date completely worn off. Unwilling to seek another act of Congress, Mint officials made the step on which the date appears recessed into the design, rather than raised from it. This change solved the problem;[SUP][57][/SUP] quarters from 1925 and after are more common and cheaper in lower grades as they have survived with their dates intact."

Be careful with metal tweezers/clips on your silver....

So this one has a good chance of being pre 1925, it's in great shape considering its been in sand for 80+ years.

I just started using tweezers, most of my hunts are on the beach where most coins have some sort of unrepairable damage to them so I kind of get sloppy sometimes. Thanks for the reminder, I need those.
