detected my grandparents backyard for only about 25 minutes, and found 3 modern pennies, and a modern dime. BUT....in that same yard, I found my first 2 wheaties!! one is a 1957, and the other is a 1953, I believe. AND...I FOUND MY FIRST SILVER!! it is a 1941 nickel!! All of the coins are in pretty bad shape, but after only my third real day of hunting, I feel very fortunaye to find my first wheaties and silver. Thanks for reading, and happy hunting to all!.

PTH,

well a bunch of congrats.

Only 3rd hunt, wheat and silver :o
Silver is always nice. ;)

Very nice. The first ones are the best ;D

Sounds like you will be finding many more.

have a good un.........
SHERMANVILLE

very close though... just between a buffalo and a war nickle... ;D ;D

Sounds like you are off to a great start and have a nice Grannies yard to detect.....there is probally more there! Congrats !

Just another goal accomplished! Good luck finding that next silver........May it be an old one. Congrats!

Not to discourage you, but I don't see any silver in that pile! A 41 nickel is just that, nickel.

Are you sure about that it is not silver? What year did nickels stop being silver? 1940?.

Weren't nickels just that, nickel? I'm not expert but I think that's the way it goes. Congrat's anyway, I had my first big find yesterday as well.

War Nickels are the only nickels minted with 35% silver. 1942-1945

Congrats on your finds, however you were one year off :'( :'( :'(

Excellant finds. There has to be silver there somewhere KEEP Diggin and good luck

WTG Cory!

Most of my silver has come from my own yard, so make sure you hit that hard. There was an old farm before my house was built, so don't neglect your own property, even if it is a newer home!

Woohoo,
Your on a roll, keep searching it gets better.
Nice finds.

Nice job!
War nickels are easy to pick out - large mint mark above Monticello.
Keep it up - you'll probably find one in the same yard!

Way to go on the Wheat's, but the nickel is just a nickel. War nickels dates are from 1942 through 1945 and have a mint mark on the back. You will know when you find one, they look silver.

Good Luck, Ringfinder

And to further confuse you, both silver and nickel nickels were made in 1942.
