Was having a miserable day detecting until the end when I definitely found my coolest metal detecting item to date. A heavy old lamp fixture unearthed about half a foot under the ground at an old park that was a vacation spot in the late 1800s to early 1900s in central NY. Found a small piece next to it which appears to have fit on top to tighten it to a ceiling. I am guessing early 1900s and brass? Not too much rust on it. Any other insights and info on how to clean it would be appreciated?

I wouldn't recommend cleaning it until you have a professional antiques dealer look at it. Something that intricate might be an Antiques Roadshow prize!

I don't know about the antique road show part but, cleaning it should be done by a professional.

Keep @ it and HH !!

Can always make a lamp for your house out of it, pretty cool find

This is just my personal opinion of course but the patina on it is beautiful already.

NOLA_Ken: What time period would you date that to then?

I don't claim to know much about that , but I think 1905 - 1910 is the approximate period - "Edwardian"

The houses I find them in date mid 1800's to early 1900's..... You can possibly research when gas lighting was in use in your area to narrow it down a bit.
