Well I guess Mother Nature has proven that my hunting season is over (unless we get a mild day along the way if there's no snow cover). Typically I choose my best coin from the pickings but with the pickings slim this year I decided it wasn't going to be a coin this time around. Instead, a nice little engraved "double eagle".

Happy Holidays to everyone!

Thanks! I am told that it is a wax seal.

Its a nice find & I wonder what age it might be :icon_scratch: 1900ish

However, from what I can tell the incised initials are not deep enough for a wax seal. Also the letters are not in reverse therefore it would not work. Looks like J(I think?) C C. Signed on the bottom to make it personal rather than to make it a seal.

Try using silly putty & see if the letters make sence, just incase?

Judging by the inscription it's personel, and very nice :o :o

Ahhh, of course! Now that's a big Duh! on my end. ;D
The home is dated 1865, but it kind of looks around 1880-1895 maybe.

very nice finds indeed. Love the eagle!
